Dramatic footage has captured the terrifying moment a Trump-hating gunman opened fire on a Republican congressional baseball practice on Wednesday leaving five injured, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. The chilling video was captured by a witness at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park and multiple gunshots can be heard ringing out as the Republican lawmakers and aides try to take cover. At one point, the footage shows a wounded player lying helplessly in the middle of the field as the gunman continues to fire dozens of shots.
The gunman, James T. Hodgkinson from Belleville, Illinois, was killed by two hero Capitol Police officers after he went on a rampage firing up to 100 rounds from his assault rifle. Steve Scalise was shot in the hip and left a trail of blood as he tried to drag himself across the field while the gunman was still firing. Two Capitol Police officers who were accompanying Scalise were shot as they returned fire to protect the congressmen as they scrambled to safety. Hodgkinson was wounded by their pistols and died in hospital later
