Revealed: Married Oklahoma man, 41, who emigrated to Switzerland, is identified as festival-goer who died after running into a blazing effigy at Burning Man
WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT – The Burning Man festival-goer who died after running into the flames of a blazing effigy has been identified as a married 41-year-old Oklahoma man. Aaron Joel Mitchell was rescued from the flames of the festival’s signature burning of a towering effigy Saturday but died after being airlifted to hospital. Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen said the man ran through a human-chain of security officers at about 10.30pm Saturday during the burning of The Man event at the counterculture festival.
Comments reveal a 41-year-old man appeared to intentionally avoid the fire fighters blocking the structure and to run into the huge Burning Man flames. The 40-ft high wooden modern art piece then collapsed into a giant triangular shape as 1st Responders & Fire Fighters tried to assist.
Praise goes to those who risked their well-being to try and save him. Likely he hit his head. He was rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive his injuries.
Was he sane? On drugs? According to other comments he had friends around him. He was married and had left Switzerland for The Solar Eclipse and Burning Man events. Yes he was a US citizen with another home in OK. Very strange.
